=== What is a VM? ===
A VM in a tool used to run another OS from within your normal desktop environment. Think of it as a mini computer inside your computer.

=== Setting One Up ===

# Download and install [https://www.vmware.com/products/workstation-player.html VMware Player]

# Get an ISO for the OS of choice
#* Typically you can google "[OS] iso download" and find it, windows can be a bit different, there is a section farther down about that
# Choose "Create a New Virtual Machine" in VMware
#* Click "Browse..." in the wizard that pops up, navigate to the downloaded ISO and select that; click next
# Fill in "Easy Install" information if applicable
#* Leave the product key blank
#* The name you use does not matter
# Click next until you get to finish
#* click finish, the VM should automatically launch

=== Common Errors ===

** Intel VT-x is form of [[wikipedia:X86_virtualization|x86 virtualization]] and needs to be enabled for 64 bit VMs to run

* <code>This host supports AMD-V, but AMD-V is disabled</code>
** AMD-V is AMD's versions of Intel VT-x, follow the steps listed above
** (may be marked as IOMMU, SVM, or something else, refer to manufacture resources if you can not find it

=== Windows 10 ISO ===
Microsoft has made getting a Windows 10 ISO a bit tricky, but very easy once you know what to do. There are a few options listed below, all work equally well.

** You will probably need to install updates if you go this route, but a total time save over the media creation tool
