Prohibited Files and Software (windows)

Why?

It is critical to delete non-required programs and files because they pose a security risk as well as provide as distractions for the workers.

Programs

What you are mostly going to be looking for here are various "hacking tools" or other non work related programs, examples include nmap, ccleaner, epic games launcher, and wireshark.

GUI

1. Windows+s and search for "add or remove programs"
2. Search through the list of programs, google any unrecognized ones
3. If you find a program that is a hacking tool or non work related, click and click uninstall

Alternative

1. Open file explore
2. Navigate to "c:\program files"
3. Select and delete any unwanted programs
4. Repeat "c:\program files(x86)"

CLI

The GUI is more useful in this situation, just use that

Prohibited Files

These files are ones that are not needed for work and are irrelevant to what the computer is being used for, examples include music, movies, pictures, and games. Along with any and all PII (Personal Identifiable Information). Don't forget to check .txt documents for anything that may need to be removed from the system.

(also note that unsigned executables should also be deleted)

GUI

1. Open file explorer
2. Search for "*.[file extension]" in "This PC"
   1. Extensions to search for: .mp4, .mp3, .png, .mov, .jpg
3. Most of the unwanted files will be found in "C:\users\"

CLI

1. Open Powershell as admin
2. run get-childitem C:\users -recurse -include *.png,*.mp4, *.mp3, *.mov
3. That will list all pngs, mp4s, mp3s, and movs along with their file location
4. Navigate to that file using file explorer and delete unwanted ones
